Unless your schedule genuinely rules it out, book the sunset departure. It runs the same route as the daytime tours but times the final stretch to ride into the gold-and-rose light that gives Cappadocia's tuff rock its reputation — a very different experience to the same valleys at midday. It's also the slot most likely to sell out, so book it a few days ahead rather than the morning of.
Solo rider or passenger — an honest comparison
Riding solo means controlling your own quad and generally needs a valid driving licence brought with you; riding as a passenger means sitting behind a guide or companion and needs nothing but a helmet. Neither requires prior ATV experience — every tour opens with a briefing and a practice stretch — so pick based on whether you'd rather drive or just take in the scenery.
What the route actually covers
Most sunset safaris link Rose Valley, Red Valley, Love Valley and Sword Valley around Göreme and Çavuşin into one loop on dirt tracks between the fairy chimneys. Dress for dust — closed shoes, old clothes, sunglasses or goggles and something to cover your face — and bring a layer for after sunset, when the valley cools fast.
